About Rita May
Rita May cares where she lives. That is why she and her husband chose to live in Dorchester County more than 25 years ago. She cares about keeping it beautiful!

Rita May served as a board member of the county's anti-litter group, Keep Dorchester County Beautiful, for 15 years and has served on the Dorchester County Parks and Recreation Commission for 10 years.
​
Rita May is a Registered Nurse, created a successful caregiver company, and has four children and seven grandchildren with her husband Jim.

Preserve Open Space & Finish Our Parks & Libraries

Started a Conservation and Greenbelt Commission and conserved over 2300 acres
-
Opened two library branches: one in North Charleston and one on Bacon’s Bridge Road
-
Opened Pine Trace Park and the Swan Drive Kayak Launch

Build Roads & Push Forward Traffic Solutions

Completed several road projects including paving of Midland Parkway, turn lanes at Wallace Ackerman, completion of the Berlin G Myers Extension, prep work for Us 17A, Orangeburg Road, Dorchester Road, Westcott Boulevard and Miles Jamison Road.

Create a More Responsible & Efficient Government

​Opened additional fire stations and signed mutual aid agreements with neighboring jurisdictions to bring the majority of the county to an ISO of 4

Opened the new Health and Social Services campus and a new urgent care center in St George
-
Expanded internet service in the western part of the County.

Completed Level 1 and Level 2 of the SCAC Certification Program and graduated from the SCED Institute.
